ISLAMABAD: The issue of possible negotiations between the government and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) has become a major topic of political discussion.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has given the green signal to Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq to facilitate talks with PTI leaders. The government delegation, as directed by the Speaker of the National Assembly, is fully ready for negotiations.
Condition of the talks
The government has made it clear that the negotiations will be held only with PTI’s elected representatives and not with the unelected individuals.
The Speaker’s office has confirmed that no PTI leader has officially contacted it so far to initiate the talks.
Speaker Ayaz Sadiq has constituted a parliamentary committee and invited the PTI to come to his chamber.
If the opposition agrees, a meeting of the parliamentary committee will be called by him. However, the opposition has not contacted him in a while.
According to the media reports, the PTI last met the Speaker to make Mahmood Achakzai the opposition leader.
Rana Sanaullah’s stance
Earlier, while speaking on a private TV programme, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah Khan also said that the government was fully prepared for talks with the PTI.
He said the government was ready for political dialogue with the opposition to improve democracy, and it was now up to PTI to decide whether it wanted to engage in dialogue.
Additionally, Rana Sanaullah said that the PTI founder was not interested in negotiations and was instead planning to launch a street movement.
