ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed US President Donald Trump’s plan to end Israel’s brutal war in Gaza.
In a message on X (formerly Twitter), the prime minister said that durable peace between the Palestinian people and Israel is important in bringing political stability and economic growth to middle east.
PM Shehbaz Sharif said that he firmly believe that President Trump is fully prepared to assist in making this extremely important and urgent understanding, a reality.
He lauded the leadership of President Trump and efforts of US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff towards ending war in Gaza.
Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s principled position and his strong belief that the implementation of the two-state proposal is essential to ensure lasting peace in the region.
It is important to mention here that President Donald Trump yesterday announced Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has agreed to a plan to end the Gaza war and publicly thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir for supporting it.
Washington outlined principles for an immediate ceasefire, hostage release, and phased Israeli withdrawal
At a White House press conference, Trump called it a big day and released his principles for peace after consultations across the region.
He said the proposal requires the immediate release of all remaining hostages within seventy two hours of acceptance.
It also calls for an immediate end to the war. Arab and Muslim countries would help demilitarise Gaza, dismantle tunnels and weapons production, and train local police.
A new transitional authority would manage governance as Israeli forces withdraw in phases under an agreed timeline.
Trump said a new international oversight body, the Board of Peace, would include Arab leaders, Israel, and himself, with more members to be announced.
Netanyahu also thanked Trump for his leadership and said the plan meets Israel’s war aims by returning hostages and ending the threat from Hamas.
