The Prime Minister (PM) of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, has asked US President Donald Trump to extend the Iran attack deadline by two weeks.

He posted the proposal of a ceasefire on X, formerly known as Twitter, on April 7, 2026. PM Shehbaz appealed to Trump to extend the deadline of the attack.

As per the post, he said, “To allow diplomacy to run its course, I earnestly request President Trump to extend the deadline for two weeks.”

His efforts to have a ceasefire between the US and Iran are being embraced worldwide.

The American-based television channel and online news organisation, CNN, has reported that Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir is playing a vital role in the advancement of negotiations between the US and Iran.

The news organisation further said that good news regarding a ceasefire is expected soon.

A deal is expected tonight between the countries, said CNN.

Pakistan gets praised by Iranian ambassador Reza Amiri

The Iranian ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, has praised the Pakistani efforts for the ceasefire.

In his post at X, he said that Pakistan has made sincere and constructive efforts to stop the war. Its efforts have now reached a delicate and sensitive stage. So far, they have moved one step beyond the fragile phase.

He further said, “In the next stage, respect and comity should be replaced by rhetorics and redundancy.”

White House aware of PM Shehbaz appeal

US President Trump is ‘aware’ of PM Shehbaz’s appeal for a ceasefire of two weeks, White ​House press secretary Karoline ‌Leavitt said ⁠on Tuesday.

A post on X said that the White House has confirmed the news to Axios, and very soon, a response will come.

President Trump also responded to the appeal of the Pakistani PM by saying that I have a great respect for Shehbaz Sharif. He said that I will get a briefing from the officials regarding it.

Intense discussions are underway right now, said Trump.

The US and Iran are currently in ‘heated negotiations’, he said while giving an interview to Fox News.

Iran considers Pakistan’s proposal for ceasefire: Reuters

As per the British news agency, Reuters, Iran is considering Pakistan’s proposal for a two week ceasfire and to open the Strait of Hormuz.

As per the senior official in Tehran, Iran has started considering the proposal of Pakistan a response will be given soon, says Reuters.

PM Shehbaz appeals Iran to open Strait of Hormuz

In the same spirit of reconciliation, the Prime Minister has also strongly appealed to the Iranian brothers to open the Strait of Hormuz for 14 days (two weeks) as a gesture of goodwill.

PM Shehbaz also said that as a result of Pakistan’s continuous diplomatic efforts, a great hope for peace has emerged in the region.

He added that Pakistan has chosen the diplomatic front with great wisdom and influence and has formally requested US President Donald Trump to extend the deadline given to Iran by two weeks so that the ongoing negotiation process can be brought to a logical conclusion.

He said that a major conflict can be prevented only by giving diplomacy a chance.

Shehbaz Sharif clarified that the aim of this move is to restore global trade and immediately reduce the rising tension in the region so that ordinary people can get relief.

While addressing the warring parties, he said, “We also urge all warring parties to observe a ceasefire everywhere for two weeks to allow diplomacy to achieve conclusive termination of war, in the interest of long-term peace and stability in the region.”

He stressed that to save humanity from the horrors of war, it is imperative to find permanent solutions to problems everywhere through diplomacy.
