PM Shehbaz welcomes eco-friendly vehicles for ITP fleet

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the use of environmentally friendly vehicles should be promoted to save foreign exchange reserves. He welcomed the adoption of such vehicles by the Islamabad Traffic Police. In the first phase, 15 electric vehicles have been provided to the Islamabad Police.

Addressing the ceremony for providing eco-friendly electric vehicles to the Islamabad Capital Territory Traffic Police, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif expressed his happiness at launching the modern vehicle system in the federal capital.

The Prime Minister noted that, with oil prices soaring, the first batch of vehicles has been provided to the Islamabad Police. He welcomed the use of eco-friendly vehicles by the Islamabad Traffic Police, emphasising that these modern vehicles will run on electricity instead of petrol.

He expressed hope that the project would be replicated across the country, highlighting that the use of electric vehicles would help save foreign exchange.

Participants were briefed that the provision of 15 eco-friendly, smart electric vehicles to the Islamabad Traffic Police is part of the Prime Minister’s vision and the government’s energy conservation policy.

Thanks to the government’s forward-looking approach, work on fuel economy and electric vehicle policies had begun before the Gulf crisis, and procurement of these vehicles started a few months ago.

Each vehicle will have a captain, a male responder, a responder and a driver, all wearing special uniforms. These vehicles will operate on the city’s main highways to further improve traffic flow.

Fully charged vehicle can cover distance of 350 to 400 kilometres

A fully charged vehicle can cover a distance of 350 to 400 kilometres. Fast charging takes 60 to 90 minutes, while regular charging takes 6 to 8 hours.

Participants were also informed that using these vehicles would save Rs. 0.55 million per month per vehicle compared to petrol-powered vehicles, allowing the electric vehicles to pay for themselves within 13 to 14 months.
