What the PMD advisory says
The Pakistan Meteorological Department reports a new westerly wave reaching the country tonight. Under this system, rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms are expected between November 4 and 5, with snowfall over higher mountains.
The wet spell may persist into the morning of November 5 and could include isolated hailstorm activity.
Cities expected to face rainfall
Light to moderate rain is likely in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, and nearby valleys.
Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, parts of Kashmir including Muzaffarabad, and adjoining mountain districts are also in line for showers and snowfall on the surrounding peaks.
In Punjab, precipitation is expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, Chakwal, Talagang, Jhelum, Sargodha, Khushab, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, and nearby areas.
Lahore weather update
The Lahore region is forecast to receive showers on November 4 as the westerly wave peaks over upper and central Punjab. Gusty winds and brief thunder are possible.
A noticeable dip in daytime temperatures is expected after the rain, while improved air quality may offer a short break from smog.
Islamabad weather update
Islamabad and Rawalpindi are likely to see rain and winds from November 4 into early November 5.
Nearby hill sites, including Murree, could observe colder conditions with a chance of snowfall on higher ridges.
Slippery roads and periods of low visibility are possible during heavier bursts.
Mountain areas and snowfall
Northern districts such as Chitral, Dir, Swat, and parts of Gilgit-Baltistan may record snowfall over the mountains.
Travel across high passes could slow due to slick surfaces and occasional whiteout conditions.
Temperatures and air quality
Daytime temperatures are likely to drop during the wet spell, with nights turning colder afterward.
The rain is expected to suppress smog and fog for a time, before conditions gradually redevelop later in the week.
Travel and safety advice
Authorities advise caution on hilly routes, careful scheduling of trips, and attention to official updates.
Windstorms, lightning, and isolated hail may damage weak structures while farmers are encouraged to plan field work around the forecast.
