Extreme heat warning: Mercury could Soar to 51°C across Sindh

The Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave alert across Sindh, warning that temperatures in several parts of the province could rise to a scorching 51 degrees Celsius, posing serious health risks to residents and prompting authorities to urge precautionary measures.

According to the department, a high-pressure system developing in the upper atmosphere is expected to trigger moderate to severe heatwave conditions across most districts of Sindh from June 8 to June 12.

The department stated that Karachi is also likely to experience heatwave conditions from June 9 to June 12, with maximum temperatures expected to range between 39°C and 42°C during this period.

The alert further indicates that temperatures in Sukkur, Shikarpur, Qambar Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, Larkana, Mohenjo-daro, Shaheed Benazirabad, Ghotki, Khairpur, and Naushahro Feroze may reach extremely high levels through June 12.

Similarly, maximum temperatures between 42°C and 45°C are forecast for the districts of Tharparkar, Badin, Hyderabad, Matiari, Tando Muhammad Khan, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Jamshoro, and Sujawal.

The Meteorological Department also warned that dusty and gusty winds are likely to affect some plain areas of the province due to the intense heat.

Residents, particularly children, women, and senior citizens, have been advised to take necessary precautions. Citizens are urged to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight, especially between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
