Iran war to affect Pakistan’s weather? PMD issues alert as new system approaches

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted that a new rain bearing weather system is coming from the direction of Iran, which is likely to enter Pakistan on Tuesday, according to reports on Monday.

The system is expected to bring rain to several areas of the country.

New rain system likely to enter Pakistan from Iran

According to the department, the system may cause rainfall in the northeastern parts of Balochistan.

The weather activity could continue for about three days with light rain, strong winds and heavy rain in some places.

Meteorologists have said that winds coming from the west may also carry polluted particles from Iran to western areas of Pakistan. This could affect the air quality further.

However, the PMD rejected the possibility of black rain in the country.  According to the details, only polluted particles may reach some areas.

According to the department, the ongoing conflict in Iran and attacks on oil and industrial facilities could release smoke, chemical particles and polluted gases into the air. These pollutants may travel across the border with strong winds.

Officials said regional offices have been instructed to collect rain samples and analyse them so any possible pollution can be detected in time.

Experts believe the impact of polluted air coming from Iran may be felt more in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Rainfall recorded in Islamabad, Rawalpindi

Meanwhile, rain has started in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, making the weather cooler and more pleasant.

Clouds have covered the twin cities since last night, and intermittent rainfall has improved the weather conditions.

Earlier, the PMD had predicted rain with strong winds and thunderstorms in several cities across Pakistan.

Officials said a westerly weather system was expected to reach the northwestern parts of the country by Saturday evening and bring rain and thunderstorms to upper areas during the weekend.

The department also said that from March 14 to 16, rain and hail were expected in the upper areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Parts of Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashmir could also receive rain and hail.
