The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread rain, thunderstorms and strong winds across much of Pakistan from April 1 to 4, 2026.

In an advisory issued on Monday, the Met Office said a westerly weather system is expected to enter southwestern Balochistan on April 1 and gradually spread to other regions over the following days.

Rain in Balochistan

According to the forecast, Balochistan will be the first province to experience the system.

Rain, thunderstorms and isolated hailstorms are expected from the evening of April 1 in coastal areas such as Gwadar, Pasni and Ormara, as well as inland districts including Quetta, Ziarat and Zhob.

The conditions are expected to continue, with breaks, until April 4.

KP and northern areas

The system is expected to reach Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from the night of April 1.

Rain and thunderstorms are forecast across the province, from northern districts such as Chitral and Swat to southern areas including Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan.

Snowfall is expected in higher areas, while some areas may experience heavy rain and hailstorms.

In Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, rain, snow and hailstorms are also expected in the coming days.

Punjab, Islamabad and Sindh

The weather system is likely to affect Punjab and Islamabad from the night of April 1.

Cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan and Bahawalpur are expected to receive rain and thunderstorms, with some areas at risk of heavy rainfall.

Sindh will be the last province to be affected.

Rain and thunderstorms are forecast in Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur from April 2 to 4.

Flood expected

The Met Office has warned of possible flash flooding in parts of northeastern Balochistan and local streams in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa between April 2 and 4.

Hill torrents are also expected in Dera Ghazi Khan.

Strong winds and lightning may damage weak structures, power lines and billboards.

Standing crops in several regions could also be affected by hail and gusty winds.

Farmers have been advised to take precautionary measures, while the public has been urged to avoid unnecessary travel during the period.

Recent rains leave casualties in KP

The warning comes as recent heavy rains have already caused loss of life in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), at least 17 people, including women and children, have died since March 25 due to house collapses.

Several others were injured, and multiple homes were damaged in districts such as Abbottabad, Kohat and North Waziristan.

Rescue and relief operations are ongoing as intermittent rainfall continues in parts of the province.

The PMD said the current weather system may persist beyond April 4, with further updates to follow.

Authorities across the country have been directed to stay alert and take necessary steps to reduce risks during the forecast period.
