Police have taken Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s sisters into custody at the Gorakhpur checkpoint near Adiala Jail.
All three sisters, Aleema Khan, Dr Uzma, and Noreen Niazi, were arrested.
Moreover, police also detained 8 to 10 workers and placed them in a prison van.
Aleema Khan’s personal vehicle was sent towards Chakri, Rawalpindi.
It is pertinent to mention that Noreen Niazi felt unwell during the situation.
Earlier, Imran Khan’s sisters staged a sit-in near Adiala Jail after they were denied a meeting.
The police attempted to disperse the protesters by negotiating with them, but their efforts were unsuccessful because Aleema Khan refused to end the protest. Then, the police launched a crackdown.
Last week, the sisters were denied a meeting with their brother and staged a three-hour sit-in on Adiala Road.
After being denied entry, Aleema Khan and other family members sat in protest on Adiala Road with PTI workers, blocking traffic for several hours. Heavy police contingents were deployed in the area to maintain order.
After three hours of chanting slogans and negotiations with police, Aleema Khan announced the end of the protest, after which traffic on Adiala Road was restored.
A few months ago, the sisters also protested when they had come to Adiala Jail specifically to meet Imran Khan, but were not allowed to.
“We were stopped just 2 kilometers from the prison,” Aleema Khan.
