Police deployed at petrol pumps in India

Indian police have been deployed at several petrol pumps in multiple states of India, including Gujarat and Ahmedabad. According to a credible media outlet, after the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, India’s 40 per cent crude imports are disrupted.

The Modi government stationed police at several petrol pumps in Gujarat. At the same time, several media reports also confirmed that police have been deployed in Ahmadabad.

Several videos are going viral online in which it can be seen that hundreds of Indian citizens gathered at multiple petrol pumps for fuel.

Why police at pumps in India?  

The Indian government took this initiative to control public unrest and crowding amid a severe fuel crisis in India. According to reports, Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz has disrupted global oil shipments, which is also having a direct impact on India.

The reports also verified that India import 40% of its crude oil from the Strait of Hormuz and currently, the Strait of Hormuz is closed due to the ongoing conflict between Iran, the US and Israel.

India is in panic  

Indian authorities said that Indian citizens are in panic due to the fuel shortage in the country. The officials also said that the citizens are gathering at petrol pumps in Gujarat and Ahmedabad to fill their vehicles’ tanks due to fuel shortage fears.

Indian authorities also said that the police have been deployed at several petrol pumps to avoid any inconvenience.

According to energy experts, if the situation in the Strait of Hormuz persists, not only India but also other countries may face fuel shortages and price increases.
