Police have rescued an Indonesian woman who was subjected to domestic abuse by her husband and held captive at their home in Hyderabad.
According to reports, the Indonesian woman, identified as Indah Marlyan, contacted the Hyderabad Women Development Department and claimed that after marrying a Pakistani national and moving to Pakistan, she was subjected to domestic and physical violence, as well as threats to her life.
She further said that her husband had confiscated her passport and other important documents, preventing her from leaving the house or returning to her home country.
The Women Development Department subsequently contacted the police and lodged a complaint, following which the woman and her infant daughter were rescued from the residence. The police also arrested her husband.
Marlyan was later presented before the court, where she recorded her statement. Representatives of the Indonesian Embassy were also present during the hearing.
It is not yet known when the woman will return to Indonesia. However, she is being handed over to her country’s consulate by the district police.
Domestic violence and harassment are serious offences, and victims can seek legal protection and assistance from the relevant authorities.
The Women Development Department, Sindh, maintains a regional office and a Women Complaint Cell in Hyderabad to protect women in crisis, offering free legal aid, medical assistance, and counseling. The office also provides shelter to women for their safety.
