President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif have started an important meeting to discuss the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and the future of the provincial government on Thursday.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi are also in the meeting.
The meeting is focusing on the current situation in the province, and the possible constitutional measures and the federal government’s next course of action.
The meeting also discussed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) long march, the law and order situation in KP, and options including governor’s rule and emergency.
According to sources, it was decided to consult President Asif Ali Zardari and other stakeholders on the situation in KP.
A high-level meeting was also held yesterday to discuss different options regarding governor’s rule or emergency in KP.
According to sources, the meeting at the PM’s House reviewed the overall law and order situation in KP and other parts of the country.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi briefed the meeting on the law and order situation, reports say. The participants also reviewed the PTI’s announcement of a long march and back-channel contacts.

KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi

Earlier, KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi said consultations have been held on the possibility of imposing Governor’s Rule in the province.
Speaking to the media in Peshawar, Kundi said Governor’s Rule had been imposed in the past and was not unconstitutional.
He also spoke about PTI’s planned long march. He said the party had made no preparations for the protest and claimed that some of its leaders were looking for ways to avoid it.
Kundi claimed that some PTI leaders had gone into hiding and were seeking arrest to avoid taking part in the long march.
“There is no preparation by PTI for the long march,” he said. He added that while PTI was talking about marching towards Islamabad, some of its members were voluntarily offering themselves for arrest.
The governor said Governor’s Rule was still an option under the Constitution. He linked the discussion to the law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and raised concerns about corruption, lawlessness and terrorism.
