President Asif Ali Zardari took a jab at PTI Founder Imran Khan, saying that if you can’t bear jail, then become Mother Teresa.
President Zardari stated that jail time is dealt with dignity, saying that he suffered a heart attack shortly after his release, yet prioritised that illnesses are inevitable. “Jail is endured with honour, although I had a heart attack right after getting out of jail, but illnesses do come,” he said.
Addressing national development, the president noted that building a country is not a short-term endeavour. “A country isn’t built in 5 years; building a country is an infinite concept,” Zardari remarked.
He also warned of emerging global conflicts over resources, pointing to regional tensions. “In the world, wars will be over water; India has also shown you a trailer of stopping water,” the president added.
The president said that “Imran Khan had a habit of giving speeches on TV every day; now it’s been a year and a half, and his son says he’s not being allowed to meet him. I spent 14 years in jail; when I met Bilawal, he had grown taller than me. If you can’t bear the hardships, then become Mother Teresa.”
Further targeting Khan’s tenure, he claimed it was effectively controlled by others. “In Imran Khan’s 4-year government, it was General Faiz who was in charge; now what does he know about running the country?” the president questioned.
Shifting focus to urban challenges, Zardari identified key issues in Karachi. “Karachi’s biggest problem is the dirt there, water, and roads,” he concluded.
Al-Shifa Eye Hospital reports on Imran Khan’s vision
Senior doctors of PIMS and the Al-Shifa Eye Trust Hospital, Rawalpindi, revealed their report on the vision of PTI founder Imran Khan.
A specialised medical team, including senior doctors from Al-Shifa International and PIMS, conducted a complete and detailed examination of Imran Khan inside Adiala Jail.
Sources revealed that the assessment involved a thorough ophthalmic evaluation and necessary procedures.
According to the doctors, Imran Khan’s vision has shown improvement. The medical team is fully satisfied with the ongoing treatment, noting positive progress in reducing swelling and enhancing clarity in the affected right eye.
The expert ophthalmologists also provided a detailed briefing of more than one and a half hours to opposition leaders and Imran Khan’s personal physicians, sharing insights into the examination results and treatment trajectory.
Imran Khan to be shifted to hospital soon
The federal government earlier decided to transfer Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder, Imran Khan, to a hospital.
Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said that the government has taken this decision in view of Imran Khan’s health.
In a tweet, he said, “The government prioritises humanitarian compassion and legal requirements. Providing facilities to every prisoner in accordance with the law is the government’s responsibility.”
“Politics should not be done on sensitive matters like health. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf should refrain from baseless propaganda or political point-scoring”, he added.
Imran Khan’s eye condition
Safdar, was the first visitor to Khan in seven weeks. He reported that his client’s condition was identified as a blood clot in his right eye. That resulted in significant damage that has left him with impaired vision.
He submitted a report outlining Khan’s condition to Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi and Justice Shahid Bilal Hasan.
According to Safdar, Khan was left “visibly perturbed and deeply distressed by the loss of vision and the lack of timely and specialised medical care.”
He requested that his client be evaluated by a team of expert ophthalmologists, be allowed to see his family, and have improved prison conditions.
The court decided that Khan should be permitted to consult with his personal physicians in Adiala Jail, where he is currently held, and be allowed to make phone calls to his sons, Kasim and Sulaiman.
