President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the confirmation along with extension of tenure of additional judges of the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday.
SHC Chief Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput conducted the oath taking ceremony. The approved judges include Justice Miran Muhammad Shah, Justice Tasneem Sultana, Justice Riazat Ali Sahar, Justice Muhammad Hassan Akbar, Justice Abdul Hameed Bhurgri, Justice Jan Ali Junejo, Justice Nisar Ahmed Bhanbro, Justice Ali Haider Ada, Justice Muhammad Ali Qasim Alvi and Justice Muhammad Jaffer Raza.
The ceremony was attended by other judges of the SHC including senior judges, bar associations representatives alongside federal and provincial officers of the law. It took place on the premises of the SHC. Some of the prominent guests included the Additional Attorney General, the Advocate General Sindh, the Prosecutor General and members of the lawyer community.
The confirmation of the newly approved judges came on January 22. Their recommendation was issued by the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) which was delivered to President Zardari through the Ministry of Law and Justice.
Last year in January, SHC appointed Justice Khalid Hussain Shahani and Justice Syed Fiaz ul Hassan Shah as additional judges for a one year period. However, their tenure was extended for six months by the JCP.
The authorized number for judges working in the SHC is 40. With the recent appointment of permanent judges, the total comes to 33.
Judges approved for other provinces
President Zardari also confirmed 11 additional judges as permanent judges for the Lahore High Court (LHC). The list included Justice Hassan Nawaz Makhdoom, Justice Malik Waqar Haider Awan, Justice Sardar Akbar Ali, Justice Syed Ahsan Raza Kazmi, Justice Malik Javed Iqbal Wains, Justice Muhammad Jawad Zafar, Justice Khalid Ishaq, Justice Malik Muhammad Awais Khalid, Justice Chaudhry Sultan Mahmood, Justice Tanveer Ahmad Sheikh and Justice Abher Gul Khan.
For the Peshawar High Court (PHC), six additional judges were approved including Justice Muhammad Tariq Afridi, Justice Abdul Fayaz, Justice Salahuddin, Justice Sadiq Ali, Justice Syed Mudasser Ameer and Justice Qazi Jawad Ehsanullah.
