PM’s laptop scheme: Where can you collect your laptop?

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman, Niaz Ahmed Akhtar, has said that the Prime Minister’s laptop scheme for students is now fully underway. He wrote in a post on his X account, “LAPTOP DISTRIBUTION UNDER PRIME MINISTER’S YOUTH LAPTOP SCHEME NOW FULLY UNDERWAY.”

HEC Chairman, Niaz Ahmed Akhtar, also urged students to collect their laptops from their universities. He wrote on X, “Dear Laptop Recipients, Laptops have been delivered to your university! Visit your university, submit the required documents to the focal person, and collect your laptop. Get ready to enhance your learning experience.”

Shehbaz Sharif announces laptop initiative

Earlier in August 2025, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced to provide 100,000 laptops to talented students. According to the government policy, the laptops will be distributed in all four provinces, the federal capital, Gilgit Baltistan, and AJK.

On August 13, 2025, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed that the distribution of laptops will be entirely based on merit. He also confirmed that there will be no favouritism or nepotism while distributing laptops.

Who is eligible?

According to the government policy, all the students who are currently enrolled in recognised public institutions, including universities and colleges, are eligible to apply for the laptop.

The students should be enrolled in a Bachelor’s, Master’s/MPhil, or PHD to apply for the laptop. As per the government guidelines, the students with 2.80 cgpa or 60 percent marks will be eligible to apply for the PM’s laptop scheme.

On the other hand, there is a quota system for the distribution of laptop as 18 percent reserved for students from Balochistan. Similarly, 5 percent is reserved for the distance-learning students.
