Private schools must now provide free education for 10% students

According to a notification by the Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA), all private schools in Islamabad have been instructed to provide free education for 10 percent of students.

PEIRA has notified the Islamabad High Court that the execution of the Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2012 has commenced in private schools.

In a report presented to the court concerning the 10 percent free education quota in private institutions, PEIRA indicated that a goal has been established to enroll 25,000 children as part of the “No Child Left Behind” initiative.

As per the report, 1,571 private educational institutions are functioning across five zones in Islamabad, with a cumulative enrollment of 389,000 students.

To date, 500 institutions have provided data regarding their infrastructure and student population.

PEIRA places children of martyrs and orphans on priority for 10% scholarship

According to the regulations, orphans and children of martyrs will be prioritised in the 10 percent scholarship program.

PEIRA has also established a monitoring committee to ensure the enforcement of the free education quota in private schools.

Numerous institutions have already submitted lists of students who have been admitted under the quota, and the verification process is currently in progress.

PEIRA has instructed all registered institutions to adhere to the quota and has requested information on scholarship students for the 2025–26 academic year.

The authority further warned that schools that do not submit the necessary data will face repercussions under the PEIRA Act.

Institutions have also been directed to provide information both manually and via an online portal.
