Carmaker under fire for not refunding customer deposits

Proton Pakistan

Proton Pakistan has failed to return around 600 million to their customers after the company could not deliver the booked vehicles.

The Malaysian car brand Proton is sold in Pakistan by the Al-Haj group, which also owns the oil and gas company in the country.

Proton Pakistan provides car models like Saga Sedan, X50 and X70. At the same time, Proton Pakistan is also considered a competitor of Kia, MG and Hyundai in Pakistan.

The brand was launched in Pakistan when Imran Khan was the prime minister. On the other hand, the company made advances in the oil and gas sector.

According to the media report, the special assistant to the prime minister on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan and the new chief executive officer of the Engineering Development Board (EDB) also took necessary action against the company and asked them to either deliver cars or refund the money of the customers.

The company had received a total of Rs890 million from customers. However, it could not deliver the vehicles and even refused to refund the amount.

The media reports also confirmed that the company has so far returned Rs300 million to the customers.

The industry ministry also received complaints from several carmakers who received money from customers and didn’t deliver vehicles. The report also confirmed that the government will take strict action against the automakers who either didn’t refund money or deliver vehicles.
