Islamabad: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi on Monday announced the appointment of legendary former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram as the brand ambassador of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL).
PSL 2026: Who is new brand ambassador?
Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, Naqvi said Akram will play an active role in promoting the league.
He said the star will also attend the auction for two new PSL franchises, scheduled to be held on January 8.
“The best thing for the PSL and the PSL brand is that Wasim Akram has been appointed as the brand ambassador. From January 1, he will officially take on this role,” he said.
“Not only that, he is also organising key aspects of the auction. There will be an international auctioneer, and Wasim Akram will be actively involved as well,” Naqvi further added.
Naqvi stated that the PCB is currently concentrating on preparations for the upcoming auction.
A strong interest from potential investors is being observed.
Naqvi expressed optimism that the franchises would attract competitive bids.
According to the PCB chairman, 10 parties have successfully qualified to take part in the bidding process for the two new teams, with the auction set to take place in Islamabad on January 8.
Multan Sultans PSL 11
The PCB chief also said that the Multan Sultans franchise will be auctioned after the conclusion of the next PSL season.
He added that the team will be operated by the PCB itself during PSL 11. Naqvi clarified that Ali Tareen would be eligible to own a new franchise if he emerges as the successful bidder.
Providing an update on the tournament timeline, Naqvi said the PCB is considering advancing the start of the PSL to March 23 instead of March 26.
He added that a final decision would be made following consultations with all franchises.
