The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has directed mobile network operators to address coverage issues and improve service quality in Islamabad and Rawalpindi by October. The regulator has asked telecom companies to eliminate weak-signal areas and improve connectivity across different sectors of Islamabad, surrounding localities and parts of Rawalpindi.
The directive also covers major routes in the twin cities, including Kashmir Highway and Islamabad Expressway, where operators have been instructed to ensure stronger and more reliable mobile coverage.
As part of the measures, mobile operators have been told to install additional sites in areas where coverage remains inadequate. They have also been directed to deploy new sites as they expand their networks through the newly allocated 5G spectrum bands.
The PTA said improved connectivity is necessary not only in residential areas but also along important roads and in nearby communities across Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The authority has set October as the deadline for operators to resolve the coverage gaps identified in the twin cities.
PTA teams are also scheduled to inspect various locations in Islamabad and Rawalpindi next week. The teams will assess network performance and identify areas requiring further improvements. The regulator said it will continue monitoring the quality of mobile services in both cities. Operators that fail to meet the prescribed service standards could face penalties.
