Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has accepted an invitation from the government for a meeting between the two sides.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan said in a statement on social media platform X that the government had sent a message regarding the meeting a day earlier. Following a decision taken at an opposition meeting, PTI accepted the invitation to meet the government team.
According to Barrister Gohar, the meeting between the opposition and government delegations will be held tomorrow at 12pm at National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq’s office.
The two sides are expected to discuss important political matters during the meeting.
The development comes amid efforts to revive political dialogue between PTI and the government. Barrister Gohar had also met Speaker Ayaz Sadiq recently, with political developments and the status of talks between the government and PTI among the issues discussed.
Meanwhile, a separate deadlock between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and opposition leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai has also been reported.
Achakzai has refused to meet Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s House, saying he considers the prime minister’s position illegitimate and alleging that he did not have the people’s mandate. He said he could meet Shehbaz Sharif anywhere, including under a tree, but would not visit the Prime Minister’s House, the Speaker’s residence or the prime minister’s chamber for the meeting.
The latest PTI-government meeting comes as political tensions remain high, with PTI maintaining its October 4 protest call and the government considering various options in response to the political and security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
