While social media has given a voice to the common people, some individuals have also started using this platform to promote their personal interests and anti-state narratives, analysts say.
The example of a social media activist named Aladeen is often pointed out by observers in this context.
The social media activist had been active on social media for some time, but was not getting much attention. However, when he started speaking against state institutions and started associating himself with the ideology of PTI, his popularity suddenly increased, observers point out.
Aladeen launched a campaign called “Mission Noor”, which was later declared controversial by many quarters.
Surprisingly, whoever criticised this campaign, the influencer would use foul language on social media and systematically campaign against them.
This behaviour is not only unethical but can also be considered an attempt to incite internal differences within the political party, analysts suggest.
The worrying aspect here is that some individuals present themselves as representatives of political parties by creating narratives against state institutions and sitting abroad through NGOs and so-called conventions, not only to earn money but also to mislead public opinion.
A recent convention in Barcelona, which was ostensibly organised in support of Imran Khan, was actually a launch event for a new NGO. Analysts say that the main purpose was to obtain funding and personal gain.

This convention, which was called “Supporting Imran Khan” or “Raising Voices Against State Injustices”, actually turned out to be a project based on personal gain, observers say.
Several people who funded the convention later expressed surprise and disappointment, saying that they had been lied to and had collected money.
They were assured that the gathering would be to support the PTI’s narrative and bring about political change in Pakistan, but on the spot, it was found that it was only a platform for the launch of a specific NGO and the personal promotion of an individual, analysts say.
This behaviour not only breeds distrust but also amounts to playing with the sentiments of the Pakistani community abroad, observers suggest.

When people donate sincerely with the intention of doing something for the country and the nation, the misuse of their trust is extremely regrettable.
This act has not only made sincere workers of PTI suspicious but also created doubts and suspicions among Pakistanis living abroad, say analysts.
Such incidents indicate how a few individuals hide behind political slogans to gain personal benefits. There is an urgent need to keep an eye on them and expose their intentions so that Pakistan’s name is not further tarnished abroad, according to analysts.
