PTI founder and Faiz Hameed were part of same nexus: Tariq Fazal Chaudhry

Web desk: Federal Minister Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said during a press conference on Friday that the decision regarding Faiz Hameed should not be viewed as a victory for any government or political party, but rather as a triumph for the Constitution of Pakistan.

He stressed that the ruling was not in favour of, or against, any individual. But one that would carry far-reaching political implications.

Chaudhry noted that Hameed had undergone a 15-month trial. He added that no one could now claim he was denied the right to a fair trial.

Commenting on past political dynamics, the minister reiterated that the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) founder had maintained an alliance with Faiz Hameed.

He stated that the PTI founder and Hameed were part of the same nexus. “Faiz Hameed was given a full opportunity to present his defence,” Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said.

“Faiz Hameed used power unconstitutionally to form and topple governments,” he further added.

The real roots of Pakistan’s recent political crisis lie in the unconstitutional actions taken by Faiz Hameed during his tenure as DG ISI, Chaudhry said.

When he was in power, it was believed that he was the most powerful person in Pakistan, he further added.

Tariq Fazal Chaudhry also stated that Imran Khan continued to benefit from the alliance between himself and Faiz Hameed. Later, he was brought to power through a controversial election.

During his tenure, Imran Khan kept engaging in negative propaganda against the state and state institutions. He also attempted to create divisions among the people of Pakistan and the army, Chaudhry said.

Faiz Hameed’s sentencing

Recently, the former spy chief Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed was sentenced to 14 years rigorous imprisonment on account of multiple charges, including the Top City Housing society case.

In November 2023, Top City Housing Society owner Moez Ahmed Khan filed a petition in the Supreme Court, accusing former DG ISI Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed of abusing his powers.

The petition claimed that on May 12, 2017, ISI officials, acting on orders from the former DG, raided Moez Ahmed Khan’s office and home.

During the raid, the officials allegedly seized gold, diamonds, cash, and other valuable items. Moez Ahmed Khan also claimed that ISI officers took Rs 40 million from him.
