PTI protests: Are KP roads still closed?

Swabi Motorway Blocked: Thousands Stranded as PTI Protesters Burn Tyres

Due to the closure of the motorway and the GT Road the supply of food items to Peshawar and surrounding areas has been severely affected.

As a result the city is left with a limited stock of flour and other essential commodities while a noticeable increase in prices has also been recorded.

Because of the shutdown of major arteries particularly the motorway and the GT Road the transportation of food supplies has remained badly disrupted for the past several days. Sources say that food availability has also become limited in the southern districts and tribal areas creating an impression of supply shortages in the city and pushing market prices sharply upward.

Meanwhile with the arrival of Ramadan and fears of a possible shortage a large number of citizens are rushing to markets for advance shopping leading to unusually heavy crowds in commercial centers.

According to sources flour prices continue to rise further.

Traders warn that if road closures and disruptions persist the shortage of essential food items could take a serious turn in the coming days.

About only 200 protesters blocked a motorway by burning tyres. It caused traffic jams and created chaos for thousands of commuters.

The demonstration severely disrupted travel and stranded motorists expressed anger at the PTI over the incident.

A passenger at Swabi Interchange criticised PTI’s protest saying the demonstration should be limited as these roads belong to the public.

‘There may be patients and passengers on the road, which creates serious problems for people. Such actions are not appropriate,’ the passenger stated.
