Over a dozen of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers including journalists were deprived of their cash and mobile phones by pickpockets during PTI rally in Karachi on Friday.
The incidents occurred as large crowds gathered near the vehicle of KP Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi. Pickpockets reportedly took advantage of the congestion to snatch valuables, including mobile phones, cash, and wallets from attendees.
The sources revealed that many victims visited the Airport Police Station to file complaints and report the losses. However, eyewitnesses viewed that while people were focused on the rally, thieves moved through the crowd, targeting their pockets and bags.
During the proceedings, some pickpockets used their sleigh of hands and stole mobile phones and cash from more than a dozen people’s pockets. Earlier upon the arrival of KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi marred by a scuffle among PTI workers at the airport, moments before he landed after a delayed flight from Islamabad.
It reported that PTI workers who had gathered to welcome Afridi exchanged a flurry of slaps outside the arrival lounge, prompting other party members to intervene and end the clash.
The confrontation occurred just minutes before Afridi’s reception, which was led by Sindh Minister Saeed Ghani, who met the visiting chief minister upon his arrival. Afridi was later escorted to the party’s Insaf House in the form of a rally.
The KP chief minister has earlier announced that the rally planned near Mazar-e-Quaid is part of PTI’s broader street movement ahead of the party’s February 8 protest call. He urged the people of the province to fully support the movement, asserting that Sunday’s gathering would be “the biggest rally Karachi has ever seen.”
