ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) repeatedly rejected the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) offers to help it form the government after the 2024 elections, claimed the Minister for Climate Change, Dr. Musadik Malik.
He shared these details during an appearance on Geo News’ programme Capital Talk on Tuesday.
Malik said the first offer came through PPP leader Khurshid Shah. Shah called PTI leaders and said the PPP was ready to vote for them if they wished to form the government.
PTI’s refusal to the Government proposal
Malik added that PTI was also invited to open Form-45 and Form-47 under its own supervision to verify the results. However, PTI did not accept the offer.
The Minister stated that another PPP leader, Nadeem Afzal Chan, also approached PTI. Chan assured PTI of unconditional support to help it take charge.
PTI rejected this offer as well, Malik claimed. He criticised PTI, saying the party neither wanted to form a government nor let the current government function. He added that PTI’s intentions remained unclear.
PTI-backed independent candidates won the most National Assembly seats in the 8 February elections. They were followed by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the PPP.
However, the PML-N formed a coalition government at the Centre with support from allied parties, including the PPP. PTI claimed its mandate was stolen, but the ruling coalition denied the allegation.
Malik said PTI must change its narrative. He questioned why PTI complained about a lack of dialogue when it refused to talk. He added that PTI had intensified the political fire and must now help extinguish it.
By adding, he said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif repeatedly invited the PTI for talks. However, PTI declined the offers.
Talks between the PML-N-led government and PTI stalled earlier this year after three rounds of negotiations.
During the show, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Special Assistant on Information, Shafiullah Jan, warned that the federal government might consider a ban on PTI. He also said treason cases could not be ruled out.
