After the announcement by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) to stage a sit-in and protest outside the Parliament House, Islamabad, the main gate of the Parliament House has been closed.
Red Zone
Due to the protests, the Red Zone has been shut off.
Constitution Avenue
A very important avenue for Islamabad residents for travel has been closed off due to the protests.
NADRA Chowk
The PTI protest in Islamabad has also resulted in the shutdown of the NADRA Chowk.
The Establishment Division gate has been opened for the return of members of the assembly. Security has been tightened, and a heavy contingent of police and rangers has been deployed outside Parliament House.
KP’s Chief Minister will also take part in the protest. Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Leader of the opposition in the senate also stated that they will be holding a sit-in outside Parliament but will not block anyone’s way.
Many members of the assembly will also participate in the protest. He further added that if their demands are accepted the protest will end immediately.
The reason for protesting is the health of Imran Khan. According to PTI, Imran Khan’s health is not good. With reports coming that he is now 85 per cent blind in his left eye.
PTI leadership is alleging that Imran Khan is not being provided with good health care and is being kept in solitary confinement.
People of Islamabad are facing many difficulties travelling from their workplaces to their homes. Fridays usually are heavy traffic days in Islamabad; the PTI’s sit-in has made life even more difficult for Islamabad’s residents.
It is important to note that the majority of the recent protests of PTI have been a big flop. They tried to stage a nationwide protest on February 8; however, it faced a nationwide rejection.
Similar scenes were observed in the PTI rally in Karachi and Haripur, indicating that PTI has become unpopular with the people of Pakistan.
Sit-in to continue until demands are met: Achakzai
Mahmood Achakzai, who is also involved in the sit-in, in an interview said that they have not asked for anything that should result in the civil martial law that has been imposed by the government.
The government has closed all the roads. All the protestors are asking is that Imran Khan should have a medical check-up by his personal doctor. So, the disease can be gauged.
He further added that many people are talking about sending Imran Khan outside the country based on medical reasons. He said that it is easy to conduct eye operations in Pakistan. No need to send him outside of the country.
Mahmood Achakzai, at the end, reiterated that the protest will not end until all demands are met.
