LAHORE: A public holiday has been announced for Nankana Sahib district on November 5 (tomorrow) on the occasion of the birth of Baba Guru Nanak.

Deputy Commissioner Nankana Taslim Akhtar Rao has issued a notification of a public holiday in the district on November 5.

According to the spokesperson of the district administration, all government institutions, schools and colleges in the district will remain closed on Wednesday.

It should be noted that the 3-day celebrations of the 556th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, the spiritual leader of the Sikhs, have begun in Nankana Sahib, where the arrival of pilgrims continues, thousands of Sikh pilgrims from home and abroad will participate in the main event.

Will there be a Public Holiday on November 9?

The main event of Baba Guru Nanak’s birthday will be held tomorrow, with a Nagar Kirtan procession taking place, in which more than 30,000 Sikh pilgrims are expected to participate.

More than 2,100 pilgrims were granted visas to attend a 10-day festival marking 556th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, founder of the Sikh faith, Pakistan’s High Commission (embassy) in New Delhi said last week.

The district administration has also made foolproof security arrangements for the safety of Sikh pilgrims, more than 5,000 officers and officials will be assigned to serve the pilgrims, the district administration has also arranged for the establishment of a convenience center, bank and money exchange.

After attending the main ceremony on November 5, the pilgrims will visit Gurdwara Sacha Sauda on November 6, followed by a one-day stay at Gurdwara Panja Sahib in Hasan Abdal.

On November 8, they will proceed to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur, and on November 10, visit Gurdwara Rohri Sahib in Eminabad.

The yatris will then travel to Lahore for a two-day stay at Gurdwara Dera Sahib before returning to India on November 13.
