The Punjab government has announced a public holiday across the province on Friday, August 14, 2026, to mark Pakistan’s Independence Day.
According to a notification issued by the Services and General Administration Department today, government offices and most public institutions will remain closed on the holiday. Regular office work will also remain suspended.
Government offices across Punjab will not carry out normal activities on August 14. Most institutions working under the provincial government will also remain closed.
Sindh announces public holiday
Before this, the Sindh government had announced Friday, August 14, 2026, as a public holiday across the province to mark Pakistan’s Independence Day.
According to the official notification, government and semi-government offices will remain closed on the day. Regular office work will be suspended.
The holiday will also cover corporations and local councils across Sindh. Their offices will also remain closed for the day.
The government said the holiday will allow people to celebrate Independence Day. However, institutions providing essential public services will continue to operate so that people can receive the services they need.

National flags will be displayed at government buildings, important roads and other places across the province. Government and private organisations will also hold special events to mark Independence Day.
Lahore announces local holiday
Before this, the Punjab government had announced August 4 as a local holiday in Lahore district on the occasion of the annual Urs of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh (RA).
According to a notification from the Punjab Services and General Administration Department, the holiday was for district offices that are working under the Deputy Commissioner Lahore. Other related government offices will also remain closed.
However, the Punjab Civil Secretariat, autonomous bodies, corporations, authorities and regional offices remained open. Their routine work also continued as usual.
Meanwhile, the Rawalpindi district administration had ordered a partial suspension of the Metro Bus Service due to the main procession for Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA).
