The Punjab government has banned the use and sale of hidden recording devices across the province for 30 days.

The government issued an official notification announcing the restrictions on gadgets used to secretly record people’s conversations, photographs and videos, to protect people’s privacy and prevent the misuse of spying equipment.

Which spy gadgets are banned in Punjab?

The restriction applies to devices specially designed for secret recording and surveillance, including glasses fitted with hidden cameras, pens containing recording devices and keychains equipped with small cameras or audio recorders.

The government has prohibited the use and sale of such gadgets in shops and through online platforms.

Officials said these gadgets could threaten personal privacy and expose sensitive information. They could also create security risks at important government buildings and other sensitive locations.

The government expressed particular concern about the privacy and dignity of women and children.

It said the restrictions were intended to prevent people from using hidden cameras and microphones to secretly record others.

However, the government has clarified that the restrictions do not apply to ordinary electronic devices.

Mobile phones, laptops and tablets are exempted from the ban.

Equipment approved by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is also excluded from the restrictions.

This means people can continue using their regular phones and computers under the announced rules.

However, devices specifically designed for hidden surveillance fall under the temporary ban.

The official notification states that the restrictions will remain in effect for 30 days.
