The Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz, has revoked permission to keep pet lions across Punjab and ordered the removal of the clause allowing the keeping of wild cats from the law.
The decision comes after she took strict notice of the recent abduction of eight-year-old Wajid.
Responding to an appeal made on air by the child’s father, the Chief Minister directed that a modern bionic arm be fitted for Wajid. Following her instructions, the child was transferred to Ganga Ram Hospital for the procedure.
The Chief Minister also ordered strict action against those responsible for concealing the incident and the improper amputation of Wajid’s arm at the local hospital.
She expressed her sympathy to Wajid and his parents and emphasised that the child would receive full medical care.
It is worth mentioning here an eight-year-old boy, Wajid Ali, lost his arm after being attacked by a lion at a private breeding farm in Sabzazar. The incident occurred when the child was playing near the lion enclosure, which was reportedly poorly secured, leading to the attack.
Police have arrested the accused and initiated legal proceedings under multiple laws. According to officials, the lion’s owners initially tried to conceal the incident, but law enforcement acted promptly to take control of the situation.
Earlier, on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique visited Ganga Ram Hospital in Lahore to meet Wajid. The Provincial Minister also met the child’s father and assured him that Wajid would receive complete medical care.
Vice Chancellor of Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Professor Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal, MS of Ganga Ram Hospital Dr. Arif Iftikhar, Professor of Surgery, Professor Imran, Dr. Sohail Niazi from King Edward Medical University, and other medical officials were present during the visit.
Speaking on the occasion, Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique said that he had come to check on the child injured in the unfortunate Sabzazar incident. “Unfortunately, the innocent child has lost his arm. We are all here on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. He will be provided with the best possible treatment,” he added.
