Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has warned that housing society owners will face arrest if citizens fall into open manholes in future incidents.
According to details, she issued the warning while chairing a meeting of commissioners in which officials briefed her on development projects across different districts of Punjab.
The Chief Minister expressed strong anger over the recent death of a three-year-old girl in Faisalabad who fell into an open sewer. She said such negligence will not be tolerated in any housing society.
She directed commissioners to take monthly written affidavits from all private housing societies, confirming that no manholes remain open within their areas. She also ordered that formal notices be issued to all housing societies across the province to ensure compliance with safety standards.
Maryam Nawaz also approved several public welfare projects under the District Development Plan, which will be funded through local revenue resources.
She instructed commissioners to actively monitor development work and remain present in the field instead of staying in offices. She said they must act as the “eyes, ears, and arms” of the government to ensure the timely implementation of projects.
During the meeting, district officers briefed her on ongoing and approved development schemes in their respective areas. The Chief Minister emphasised strict accountability and better supervision of public safety measures across Punjab.
