Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s spokesperson Kausar Kazmi has issued an important statement regarding the purchased aircraft and the Air Punjab airline.
Speaking on a TV show the spokesperson for the Punjab chief minister said that claims suggesting the aircraft was purchased secretly are surprising.
He said that the Balochistan government bought an aircraft worth Rs1.7 billion and no one talks about it while the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government also purchased two helicopters that received little attention. “Why is only Punjab being scrutinized and criticized?” he questioned.
Kausar Kazmi said that the aircraft has already been purchased and is now an asset of the Punjab government.
He said that he represents the Punjab chief minister not any provincial minister and that Azma Bukhari should not have made such remarks regarding the aircraft issue. He added that when one holds a portfolio statements should be made thoughtfully.
He said that certain groups driven by bias are unhappy with the Punjab chief minister while people from other provinces say they want a chief minister like Maryam Nawaz.
During the program Kazmi said that details regarding the purchase of the aircraft will be shared and the situation regarding Air Punjab will become clear by April.
He added that engineers informed the Punjab government that maintenance costs were increasing due to the aircraft being old. He said he does not currently have exact figures on the purchase price.
“Unfortunately, there are far more serious issues than the aircraft matter but no one talks about them. A storm of abusive content was created on social media, giving the impression that Maryam Nawaz personally bought the plane and parked it at Jati Umra,” he said.
The Punjab chief minister’s spokesperson further also said that permission under the name Air Punjab has been granted and the license has also been issued and added that the airline is expected to begin operations by April.
