Threat alert: CM Punjab’s security to be revamped

Punjab CM's security to be revamped

LAHORE: The Punjab government has launched a complete review of the chief minister’s (CM) security arrangements amid high threat alert.

According to police sources, security personnel deployed on high-profile routes are being screened. These routes include Jati Umra, GOR (Chief Minister’s Office), Model Town, and Canal Road.

Sources said not only security staff but other employees are also being checked. The purpose of the screening is to ensure that no officer or staff member has any links with religious or banned organizations.

Police officials added that if any such connection is found, the person will be immediately removed from duty at Jati Umra or the CM’s Office.

Sources revealed that the screening began following the Afghan repatriation process and recent operations against banned outfits, as a precautionary measure recommended by intelligence agencies.

The Punjab government has also directed all law enforcement agencies to maintain close coordination during the process to ensure foolproof security for the chief minister and other key officials.

According to background information, intelligence agencies had recently reported possible activity of banned groups in Punjab. Based on these alerts, authorities decided to recheck and restructure the CM’s security detail.

Sources said that after the screening is completed, a new security team may be appointed.
