Major transport initiative: Punjab launches e-bike rental service

E bike rental service

The Punjab government has decided to launch a major initiative aimed at providing citizens with a modern, affordable, and environmentally friendly mode of transportation.

Under the project, Lahore will introduce its first ever e-bike rental service, making daily commuting easier and more cost-effective for residents.

In the initial phase, 10,000 electric bikes will be made available, while 300 docking and charging stations will be established across different parts of the city to allow users to conveniently pick up and return the bikes.

According to officials, the Punjab Housing Authority (PHA) will provide suitable locations for the charging and docking stations. The service will help residents travel easily between residential and commercial areas and nearby public transport points.

The project will involve collaboration between LePark, the Transport Department, Safe City and other relevant institutions. Citizens will be able to rent e-bikes through a mobile application, offering students, employees and the general public a low cost and modern transportation alternative.

Government officials said the use of electric bikes is expected to reduce traffic congestion, save fuel and help curb air pollution. The project is also projected to cut thousands of tons of carbon emissions annually in Lahore, marking a significant step toward reducing smog and protecting the environment.

According to the Secretary Housing, the government is working on modern and sustainable initiatives to provide eco friendly transportation facilities while addressing pollution and smog related challenges in the province.
