Exams 2026: Major announcement for 8th class students in Punjab

Punjab exams

Punjab’s 8th class annual exams under the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) will begin in the second week of March 2026, with results scheduled to be announced on March 31, according to the Punjab Education Board.

For the first time in Pakistan, answer sheets will be evaluated through a computerised checking system, marking a major shift in the province’s examination process.

Exam Duration and Subjects

Exams will take 2-3 days and will include 3-4 subjects. Punjab government for the purpose of conducting the exams has allocated the sum of Rs1.6 billion and has issued a detailed SOP for examination staff.

Staff Positions and Responsibilities

  • School heads will act as resident inspectors.
  • Senior teachers will act as superintendents.
  • Primary and elementary teachers will be the test administrators.

Assigning the staff and technology

Examination staff will be allocated using an online system and superintendents or test administrators cannot be posted at their own schools. Tehsil focal person or inspectors must have an Android phone for scanning bar codes of exam material.

Student to Staff Ratio and Gender Consideration

One test administrator will be allocated for every 40 students. Female staff will be posted at centres where girls are showing up for exams.

Punjab to Introduce Onscreen Marking

Punjab education authorities have announced the introduction of on-screen marking for Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE). The new system is set to start this year with computer science chosen as the pilot subject.

Purpose of the Initiative

Officials say the reason for the move is that they want to modernise the evaluation process, speed up the compilation of results and also to address long-standing irregularities in the exam administration process.

Pilot Subject Selection

Computer science was selected because of its objective question format and is highly compatible with digital assessment systems.

Broader Reforms

Muzammil Mahmood, Chairman of Chief Minister’s task force on Boards, has revealed that this step is part of a larger digital transformation in the field of education.

Other measures include standardisation of regulations for examinations, biometric verification at centre, and revamping of the practical examinations to ensure accurate assessment of the ability of the students.
