Punjab government advises tourists to avoid visiting Murree amid heavy snowfall

Punjab Information Minister Azama Bukhari advised citizens to avoid visiting Murree due to heavy snowfall in the district. She also confirmed that Murree is currently overcrowded with visitors.   

The public advisory for travellers from Lahore states that all hotels and guest houses in Murree are fully booked and there is heavy snowfall in the hill station.

The minister urged travellers to postpone their visits to Murrree because the area is filled with vehicles and there is no more capacity left for extra vehicles, adding that there is no further accommodation left for new visitors.

Azma Bukhari assured that the protection of tourists is the government’s top priority. However, she requested citizens to avoid visiting Murree until the situation improves.

Tourists from all over Pakistan rush to Murree the moment it receives snowfall, making it tough for the authorities to manage such a huge number of visitors.

To provide a safe and enjoyable experience for the tourists, Murree police have issued an advisory during heavy snowfall.

Dr. Muhammad Raza Tanveer Sipra, District Police Officer of Murree stated that the “Queen of the Hills” received heavy snowfall with up to four inches of snow recorded in the area.

How many tourists visited Murree

  • Till Thursday, 9:20 PM – 10,741 vehicles entered Murree, 9,544 vehicles departed
  • 9,551 vehicles entered and 7,469 exited in entire region
  • In last 24 hours, 11,339 incoming vehicles, with 2,278 still in the city.

Tourist advisory

  1. Use of snow chains is mandatory
  2. Keep fuel tanks full
  3. Ensure heaters remain functional
  4. Avoid travel at night
  5. No parking on main roads
  6. Allow snow-clearing machinery to operate
  7. Prepare their vehicles, 4×4 vehicle is recommended.
