Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif extended her greetings to the Sikh pilgrims and warmly welcomed them arriving for the Vaisakhi Festival on the occasion.
She said that Vaisakhi as a celebration filled with joy and vibrant colors that reflect the true spirit of Punjab. She added that it is a privilege of the province and people to host Sikh pilgrims on their sacred land.
Meanwhile, more than 2,200 Indian Sikh pilgrims arrived at Gurdwara Janmashthan from Lahore, traveling in special buses under tight security arrangements.
Separately, Punjab Minister for Minorities Affairs Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora announced plans to restore over 50 gurdwaras across the province. He made the announcement while addressing a ceremony after laying the foundation stone for the renovation and beautification of Gurdwara Sri Kyara Sahib during the second day of the nine-day festival.
He further shared that a modern 40-room residential complex will be built at the gurdwara to accommodate visiting pilgrims. Comprehensive arrangements, including food, lodging, security, and healthcare, have also been put in place for thousands of local and international participants.
Visiting pilgrims expressed satisfaction with the arrangements and thanked the Punjab government for facilitating their visit, describing Pakistan as a peaceful country that promotes interfaith harmony.
Why is Vaisakhi Mela important for the Sikh Yatris?
Vaisakhi Mela is important for the Sikh Community as it marks the birth of their Guru Gobind Singh in 1699.
Several Sikh Yatris on social media confirmed that they feel comfortable when they visit Pakistan to celebrate Vaisakhi Mela. One of the female Sikh Yatris said that Pakistan is a beautiful country of kind people. She also urged other Sikh Yatris to visit Pakistan in 2027.
