The Punjab government has teamed up with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), the Central Depository Company (CDC), and the Insurance Association of Pakistan to link Motor Third Party Insurance directly to the Route Permit System.
This new requirement was formalised at a signing ceremony attended by SECP Chairman Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu and other top industry leaders.
The primary goal of the initiative to link Motor Third Party Insurance to the Route Permit System is to protect everyone on the road including passengers and drivers by ensuring they can receive quick financial compensation if an accident occurs.
To make this work, the Punjab government now requires all public transport vehicles to have third-party insurance before they can receive or renew their route permits.
To keep the system efficient and transparent, Punjab has also digitised its permit process.
It is now synced with the CDC’s Motor Insurance Repository, allowing authorities to verify insurance policies instantly.
This move is expected to improve law enforcement while making it easier for transport businesses to operate.
