The Punjab government has announced a new initiative called ‘One Dollar Cinema’ to make movie tickets more affordable and encourage people to return to cinemas across the province.

Punjab Information and Culture Minister Maryam Aurangzeb announced the proposed scheme as part of efforts to revive Pakistan’s struggling film industry.

Cinema tickets could cost between Rs300 and Rs350, making movie outings more affordable for the general public.

The main goal of the One Dollar Cinema project is to make it easier for ordinary citizens to watch films on the big screen.

High ticket prices can make cinema visits expensive, especially for families buying several tickets at once.

The proposed ticket prices could also help young people and students enjoy films without spending too much money.

Maryam Aurangzeb said the provincial government was taking urgent steps to support local filmmaking and bring audiences back to cinemas.

However, authorities have also not confirmed when the reduced ticket prices will take effect or whether they will apply to all films and screenings.

Aurangzeb calls for transparent drug pricing

Previously, the government reviewed a new set of proposals on medicine prices. Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb stressed that any changes must be transparent, based on evidence and aimed at protecting the public interest.

Aurangzeb chaired the eighth meeting of the cabinet committee formed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to review recommendations from the Drug Pricing Committee and the Policy Board of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP).

The meeting was attended by Minister for National Health Services Mustafa Kamal, Minister for Defence Production Muhammad Raza Hayat Harraj, senior officials from the Health Ministry and DRAP, and representatives from the Commerce and Finance Divisions.
