Punjab rolls out massive rural water, drainage initiative

In a major push to uplift rural infrastructure, the Punjab government, in collaboration with the World Bank, is rolling out modern drainage and clean drinking water projects across 2,000 villages in the province.

At the same time, development under the Chief Minister’s Model Village Program is gaining pace, with over 450 villages set to receive essential urban-style facilities.

These initiatives are being implemented by the Punjab Rural Municipal Services Company (PRMSC), focusing on improved water supply, drainage systems, and upgraded living standards in villages.

During a recent visit to Tehsil Kallar Kahar, PRMSC CEO Khurram Pervez reviewed ongoing development work and called for enhanced performance and efficiency to ensure the timely completion of projects

Clean drinking water, drainage facilities in 2,000 villages

In collaboration with the World Bank, modern projects to provide clean drinking water and drainage facilities in 2,000 villages across the province are being successfully implemented.

Khurram Pervez also held a cordial meeting with the local community, listened carefully to their concerns, and issued necessary instructions to the relevant authorities for their immediate resolution.

Overall, the visit proved to be very useful and productive. It provided clear guidance to further improve service delivery, expand project scope, strengthen financial discipline, and enhance coordination among all stakeholders.

Furthermore, at the CEO’s direction, Earth Hour was observed across all PRMSC tehsils to promote global environmental awareness, with a focus on energy efficiency and environmental protection.

Meanwhile, a major development initiative had been approved to transform seventeen villages in the Rawalpindi Division into model villages under the Annual Development Program. The project, with an estimated cost of Rs 2.220 billion, aims to significantly upgrade municipal services in remote rural areas across three districts.

The inner sources revealed that the scheme will focus on providing clean drinking water, improving drainage systems, and paving roads and streets to enhance living standards. As part of the plan, water filtration plants will be installed to ensure access to safe drinking water.
