Punjab: Ramadan bazaars introduced to provide relief to citizens

Ramadan Bazaars in Punjab have been established at 74 locations throughout the province to help people in purchasing essential food items at reduced prices.

This initiative commenced on February 14 under the guidance of the Punjab Sahulat Bazaars Authority, aiming to provide relief prior to the onset of Ramadan.

The provincial government has transformed existing Sahulat Bazaars into dedicated Ramadan markets. These markets are now fully operational and prepared to cater to consumers.

The objective is to alleviate the financial strain on families during the holy month. Chairman of the Authority, Afzal Khokhar, oversaw the overall preparations.

Officials ensured that all arrangements were finalised quickly and that facilities were in place for a seamless shopping experience in Ramadan bazaars across Punjab.

Director General Naveed Rafaqat conducted visits to several markets to assess the situation. He inspected bazaars in various areas of Lahore and the nearby Ferozewala.

During these visits, he evaluated cleanliness, security measures, and the operational status of CCTV cameras. Officials have confirmed that 16 essential items are available at discounted prices.

These prices are up to 10 percent lower than those set by district authorities. A 10-kg bag of flour is priced at Rs. 850, while sugar is offered at Rs. 140 per kilogram.

Additionally, a central control room has been established to oversee all markets across Punjab. This control room will function continuously to address complaints and ensure effective management.

To uphold discipline, staff leave has been suspended during the operational period. Senior officers have been instructed to regularly visit markets and verify arrangements.

Ramadan ration cards

Anyone will be able to purchase goods utilizing ration cards and Ramadan Nigehban cards. Additionally, the government has launched a complimentary home delivery service within a five-kilometre radius.

This initiative aims to assist elderly individuals and at-risk populations. Furthermore, authorities are contemplating the establishment of special camps for senior citizens.

These camps will facilitate improved access and provide dedicated assistance. Officials indicate that this initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring affordability, transparency, and effective service delivery throughout Ramadan.
