With Basant approaching Punjab authorities have stepped up safety arrangements by distributing one million protective rods to motorcyclists at 100 designated points across the city local media reported.
Officials confirmed Lahore has been divided into three operational zones to ensure smooth movement and public safety with the safety initiative costing over Rs110 million.
Areas have been classified based on risk and crowd density including 48 Red Zones in Walled City Lahore 32 Yellow Zones in Ichhra, and 20 Green Zones in Liberty.
To enforce regulations around 100 road safety camps have been established staffed by district administration officials traffic police and rescue teams.
Strict checks are also in place with motorcycles and loader rickshaws barred from roads without helmets.
Meanwhile the Punjab government has announced a free shuttle bus service for Basant days to ease congestion.
Nearly 695 buses will operate on routes connecting Muridke, Sharaqpur, Raiwind, Manga Mandi and Kasur with key entry points of Lahore aiming to provide safer and smoother travel during the festival.

Earlier it was reported that in a review meeting Chief Minister stressed that the provincial government is determined to revive Punjab’s cultural traditions while prioritising public safety and security.
Maryam Nawaz during meeting she said that the kite festival in Lahore will promote the culture in a meaningful and a vibrant way, adding that the government seeks to bring joy back to the people of Punjab.
During the three days of Basant over 695 buses will be providing free travel facilities. Other than these buses, Metro buses, Orange Line Train and electric buses will also be operating free of charge during Basant.
To ensure safety and security for all Maryam Nawaz further said that the Punjab government will be distributing one million safety rods to motorcycle riders to prevent accidents caused by sharp kite strings. She also warned that the people who will use illegal dangerous kite strings will be imprisoned for up to 5 years.
