ISLAMABAD: Taking notice of the recent war of words between Punjab and Sindh governments, President Asif Ali Zardari has summoned Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to Karachi in a bid to defuse the tensions between the two provincial governments.

In this regard President held a telephonic conversation with the interior minister to discuss the growing tension between the Sindh and Punjab governments.

According to sources, the president summoned the interior minister to Karachi immediately to help defuse the situation through dialogue.

During the conversation, President Zardari stressed that it was the federal government’s responsibility to maintain harmony and trust among the provinces, the sources said.

He directed that any misunderstanding or political differences should be resolved through constitutional and political means, and must not be allowed to escalate.

The president said that the country urgently needed political stability and inter-provincial unity.

In recent days, tensions between the Sindh and Punjab governments have reportedly increased due to administrative disputes and controversial statements from some provincial ministers. Differences over police powers and jurisdiction have also contributed to the strain in relations.

President Zardari, known for advocating strong federal–provincial coordination, made it clear that discord or mistrust among provinces was against the national interest.

He directed the federal government to take swift steps to restore communication and cooperation among all provinces.

It merits mentioning that President Zardari has just returned to Karachi last night from a foreign visit.
