Web desk: The Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryum Nawaz, has decided that traffic wardens will continue wearing their current uniforms, reversing an earlier directive issued four months ago to introduce a new design.
According to traffic authorities, preparations had already begun for purchasing the existing uniform after the latest decision.
Around 14,000 new uniforms and accessories will now be procured for wardens across Punjab, including Lahore, at an estimated cost of Rs. 8 crore.
Officials confirmed that an advertisement will soon be issued for the purchase of the current uniforms.
Traffic authorities had recently designed and presented a new light brown uniform for approval.
“The Chief Minister had ordered to continue the current uniforms after seeing both the uniforms,” the Traffic authorities stated.
However, after reviewing both designs, the Chief Minister directed that the existing uniform be retained.
Punjab’s Traffic Wardens’ Uniforms: Sky-Blue Traffic Uniforms to be ‘Replaced’ with Khaki Design
Punjab’s traffic wardens were earlier set to receive new uniforms, moving from their traditional sky-blue attire to a khaki design.
Punjab was earlier preparing to change the uniform of its traffic police force for the first time since its reorganisation in 2006.
According to sources, the proposed new uniform featured a khaki colour scheme. It followed a similar change made by the Punjab Police, which adopted new uniforms in 2017.
A detailed summary of the proposed design, including photographs of the new look, had been sent by the Inspector General of Police to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for final approval.
Officials said the khaki colour was selected with Punjab’s weather conditions in mind, ensuring that the new uniform remains practical and comfortable throughout both summer and winter seasons.
According to the sources, the khaki design was intended to be more comfortable and practical, especially given Punjab’s weather conditions and the demanding nature of the wardens’ field duties.
However, the Chief Minister has now decided that the traffic wardens’ uniforms will remain unchanged.
According to traffic authorities, CM Maryam Nawaz has ordered the continuation of the current design, reversing the decision made four months ago to introduce a new uniform.
