Globally renowned qawwal Nazir Fareedi has passed away on Thursday after a prolonged illness. He had been unwell for quite some time and was under treatment.
Nazir Fareedi began his artistic and qawwali journey at the shrine of Shrine of Baba Fariduddin Masood Ganjshakar in Pakpattan.
He earned recognition for his mastery in performing Sufi and mystical poetry, which brought him immense fame not only in Pakistan but across the world.
The funeral prayers for the late qawwal will be offered today after Asr prayers at the shrine of Baba Fariduddin Masood Ganjshakar.
A large number of devotees and people associated with the arts are expected to attend.
Who was Nazir Fareedi?
Nazir Fareedi was considered among the respected voices of traditional Sufi qawwali in Pakistan.
He became known for performing Punjabi and Urdu Sufi kalam linked to saints including Baba Farid, Bulleh Shah and Amir Khusro. His style reflected the traditional “mehfil-e-sama” culture seen at shrines across Punjab.
Nazir Fareedi performed at Urs celebrations, spiritual gatherings and qawwali events in Pakistan and abroad. Admirers praised his deep voice and emotional delivery of mystical poetry.
