Qualcomm has launched its new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 mobile platform. The company announced the chipset at Snapdragon Summit 2026. The event is taking place in Maui, Hawaii, from September 22 to 24. Qualcomm also introduced the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. Both platforms target premium Android smartphones. They focus on artificial intelligence, gaming, cameras, performance, and connectivity. The standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 uses Qualcomm’s new Oryon CPU. It also includes a redesigned Adreno GPU and Hexagon NPU. The chip is built using an advanced 2nm process.
Improved CPU and GPU performance
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 brings several performance upgrades. Qualcomm says its Oryon CPU reaches speeds of up to 5GHz. The company reports a 10% CPU performance improvement over the previous generation. It also claims 37% better CPU power efficiency. The Adreno GPU provides a 35% performance increase. It also delivers a reported 40% improvement in efficiency.
The chipset also supports advanced gaming features. These include Snapdragon Elite Gaming technologies and Game Quick Touch 3.0. Qualcomm says these features can improve responsiveness during gameplay.
Focus on on-device AI
AI is a major part of the new Snapdragon platform. Qualcomm designed the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 for agentic AI experiences. The platform can support personalized AI agents directly on smartphones. These agents can learn from user interactions and preferences. Qualcomm says this approach can provide more proactive assistance while keeping data on the device.
The new Hexagon NPU also delivers a 14% performance improvement. Qualcomm says its AI Engine can provide up to 20% better performance per watt.
Camera and video improvements
Qualcomm has also upgraded imaging capabilities. The chipset includes Intelligent Pixel Control for more precise image processing. The technology can reduce halos and flares in images. It can also maintain visual consistency as scenes change.
The Elite Color Engine helps reduce video noise. Motion Intelligence can improve stabilization by responding to subject movement.
Faster connectivity
It supports peak download speeds of up to 14.8Gbps. The platform also supports Qualcomm FastConnect 8800. Its peak Wi-Fi speed reaches up to 11.65Gbps. The connectivity system supports Wi-Fi 8 alongside earlier Wi-Fi standards. Qualcomm also says the new modem can reduce power consumption by up to 30%. It can provide faster download throughput and improved reception.
Upcoming flagship smartphones
Qualcomm says several major smartphone brands will use the new platforms. These include HONOR, iQOO, Motorola, OnePlus, OPPO, REDMI, RedMagic, vivo, and Xiaomi. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 is designed to bring advanced AI and premium performance to a broader range of flagship devices. Overall, as part of its new flagship mobile lineup. The platform combines faster processing with AI features, gaming improvements, camera upgrades, and advanced connectivity.
