Quinton de Kock

South Africa won a magnificent victory over West Indies in the second T20 played at Centurion and completed a brilliant run chase and sealed the series in their name. The highlight of the night was the sensational century by Quinton de Kock who delivered a memorable winning innings for the Proteas.

Batting first, West Indies put up a good total of 221 runs due to aggressive batting of their top and middle order. Brandon King and Shimron Hetmyer played an attacking game in the power play, giving their team a good start.

King, after being close to a half century, was unfortunately gone as Kagiso Rabada put him out for 49, an important breakthrough for South Africa.

Hetmyer then held the innings together and made a vital partnership with Sherfane Rutherford. Hetmyer’s fluent knock of 75 runs kept the scoreboard flowing, however, he was later dismissed by Marco Jansen. In spite of this, Rutherford changed gears in the last overs and showed aggressive batting.

Scoring 57 runs at the amazing strike rate of 237, he led a powerful counterattack and helped West Indies to pile up a big total.

The task of scoring 222 runs was not an easy task but South Africa’s reaction was extraordinary. Their top order took aggressive approach right in the beginning and did not let the run rate put them under pressure.

Quinton de Kock showed classic and clean hitting and mauled the West Indian bowling attack.

Ryan Rickelton also gave the chase great support and complemented the aggressive style de Kock adopted. De Kock went on to make a brilliant hundred and put forward a great sample of T20 batting.

Thanks to the excellent innings of his playing, the South African side won, scoring 225 runs in 17.3 overs, establishing an unbeaten 2-0 lead in the series.
