Rain, Snowfall intensify cold across Pakistan

Rain and snowfall across the country on Wednesday increased the intensity of cold as temperatures dropped sharply, the private media channel reported.

Snowfall in several areas drew large numbers of people to tourist spots, while rainfall further worsened the cold weather. The season’s first snowfall hit Galiyat, Nathia Gali, and Thandiani.

Rain in Abbottabad and nearby areas, as well as in Mirpur and surrounding regions, intensified the cold. Islamabad also received heavy rain. Light drizzle was reported in different parts of Lahore, while Sargodha received light to heavy rain.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rainfall in Peshawar increased the cold. Rain was also reported in and around Mardan, while snowfall continued for the second day in upper Swat, including Kalam and Malam Jabba.

Rain and snowfall were also reported in several districts of Balochistan. Snow fell in Ziarat, Chaman, Kan Mehtarzai, and Toba Achakzai, while intermittent rain was recorded in Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Kalat, and other areas.

The Met Office forecast more snowfall in Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, and Kohistan over the next 24 hours. It also predicted snowfall in Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, and Skardu.

Murree weather on New Year’s Eve is expected to be cold with a high probability of rain and snowfall. If you are planning a trip, it is advised to take measures accordingly.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted rain and snowfall in Murree and nearby hill stations, including Galyat and Nathiagali, starting December 30.

This weather is expected to continue until January 2, covering New Year’s Eve.

Earlier, the Met Office warned that a western weather system entering the country on December 30 could bring rain and snow over the next two to three days.

The advisory says the system will get stronger tomorrow. Rain is expected in the upper and central parts of Islamabad and nearby areas.

Snowfall is forecasted for Naran, Kaghan, Swat, Dir, Murree, Galyat, and Skardu. Heavy snow may cause road closures.
