ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (has forecast rain and snowfall in different parts of the country during the coming week.
According to the Met Office, a western weather system will enter the country on December 29 and spread to upper and central regions by December 31.
Rain is expected in various areas of Balochistan from December 29 to 31, while snowfall is likely over the mountains. Light rain or drizzle may also occur at a few places.
From December 30 to January 1, rain is expected in upper and plain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with snowfall in hilly regions.
The Met Office said Punjab, Islamabad and the Murree-Galiyat region are likely to receive rain from December 30 to January 2, while upper areas may see snowfall.
Due to snowfall, travel in northern areas may be affected. There is also a risk of avalanches in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan, the Met Office warned.
Karachi cold wave
The weather department says temperatures in the city are likely to fall between Tuesday and Wednesday under the influence of a western weather system. Karachi is expected to receive rain on December 30, which may bring a noticeable drop in temperatures.
Earlier last week, dense fog in the port city forced six international flights to be diverted from Jinnah International Airport to other destinations.
