The modernisation plan of urban centres by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has turned the historic Raja Bazaar of Rawalpindi into a modern bazaar.
The beautification and redevelopment work has finally been completed.
The project has transformed one of the oldest and most frequented commercial zones of the city and has added modern urban features in it to accommodate the citizens, traders and visitors.
The aim of the renovation of the Raja Bazaar was to retain its historical character while also meeting the current urban bazaar requirements.
The project comprised the installation of arch walls and the upgrading of the existing buildings, to provide the market with a better and more organised appearance.
New tiles installed, benches, street lights, Victorian lights, dustbins and planters to improve public convenience and the overall environment.
In the process of redevelopment, the electricity, water, gas and telecommunication cables were relocated underground to enhance the market’s aesthetics and to make the urban space more safe and cleaner.
The beautification project also included the enhancement of the entry points of Raja Bazaar and Commercial Market.
The project was aimed at tackling critical issues of the Raja Bazaar with respect to sanitation, traffic-related matters, and pedestrian facilities.
The redevelopment will enhance the comfort, safety and cleanliness for citizens as well as enable trading and other commercial activities in the area.
Raja Bazaar has been transformed along modern lines keeping its cultural and historical significance intact.
The finished project has transformed the historic marketplace and added sustainable improvements to help make residents, shoppers and businesses more comfortable with their daily lives.
